LAB is a completely peer led anonymous program designed to create a safe, free, third places for individuals seeking connection, belonging or enjoyment in their day to day lives. There are no authority, hierarchy or representatives in LAB, we take no official viewpoints, and members remain anonymous.

How the 12 LAB steps work

Our steps are designed to empower members to take ownership of their growth and transformation. Each step is carefully worded to reinforce personal agency, self-acceptance, and the possibility for meaningful connection.

A Grounding Principle is the mantra of the LAB Steps: We discovered a sense of peacefulness and purpose by embracing connection, play, and self-acceptance as guiding principles in our lives.

Understanding the 12 Steps of LAB

1

We acknowledged what was.

We admitted that we had felt lonely, awkward, or bored and recognized these feelings as valid experiences, not weaknesses. By naming them, we claimed the power to transform them.

2

We sought guidance beyond ourselves.

We opened ourselves to the possibility of a Higher Power, as we each understood it, to inspire us toward connection, play, and self-acceptance.

3

We discovered our shadow selves.

We uncovered the parts of ourselves we had avoided—our fears, insecurities, and past wounds—not to judge them but to understand their role in our story. This empowered us to embrace or heal these aspects as needed to move forward.

4

We found play in the mundane.

We transformed everyday tasks into opportunities for joy, humor, and presence, learning to see beauty and playfulness in life’s simplicity.

5

We stepped outside our comfort zones.

We took manageable steps beyond what felt safe, trusting that each attempt built our confidence and expanded our world.

6

We experienced a single profound moment of clarity.

We reached an epiphany—a moment where we saw ourselves, our journey, and our potential with profound clarity. This realization became a powerful turning point in how we viewed ourselves and our path forward.

7

We challenged ourselves to achieve what once felt impossible.

We took a bold, impactful action that aligned with connection, play, or self-acceptance—something that had once felt unimaginable but now represented the full strength of our growth.

8

We built connection through empathy.

We deepened relationships by listening with intention, setting aside judgment, and striving to truly understand others.

9

We explored new approaches to connection.

We experimented with new ways of engaging with others, learning to be vulnerable, express kindness, or initiate meaningful interactions.

10

We fostered close connections.

We nurtured deeper, more meaningful relationships by building trust and investing time and authenticity in the people who mattered to us.

11

We found fulfillment in giving and receiving.

We allowed ourselves to be supported while also supporting others, knowing that connection was strengthened through mutual care.

12

We shared the spirit of L.A.B.

We carried these principles into our lives and invited others to explore the joy of connection, play, and self-acceptance.
